New Delhi:

A Chinese commander was killed in the June 15 clash in eastern Ladakh, the Chinese military confirmed during military talks with India in Galwan.

The first admission from China of any victim appeared a week after the clash in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed. Army sources said 45 Chinese soldiers were killed or injured in the fighting that broke out near the Galwan River 15,000 feet in the Himalayas. However, Beijing has so far given no figures on the losses.

Seventy-six Indian soldiers have been injured and are expected to return to duty within a few weeks of recovery, army sources said.

Indian soldiers were brutally assaulted with rude but deadly weapons like rods and spiked rocks and clubs wrapped in barbed wire in what has become the biggest confrontation between India and China on the border since 1967.

Since the confrontation, military talks have taken place in Galwan to defuse tensions.

Ten Indian soldiers detained by the Chinese army after the clashes were released after three days of negotiations between the military commanders of India and China in Galwan.
