China said on Tuesday that the United States was a troublemaker undermining peace and stability in the South China Sea region, responding to Washington rejecting Beijing’s disputed claims over offshore resources in most waters.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told reporters during a briefing that China had never attempted to build an empire in the South China Sea, rejecting the secretary’s comments. US state Mike Pompeo in a statement released Monday.
