Bhopal:
The Center has agreed to provide 50 tonnes of oxygen per day to Madhya Pradesh, which faces an oxygen shortage due to an increase in COVID-19 cases, said Chief Minister of State Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
“At my request, the Indian government today agreed to provide 50 tonnes of oxygen per day, bringing our oxygen availability to 180 tonnes per day,” Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted on Saturday evening.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Piyush Goyal for their support to the state during this difficult time of the COVID-19 epidemic.
Help from the Center came after the oxygen supply to Madhya Pradesh was cut off from a facility in Maharashtra.
A company called INOX was supplying oxygen to Madhya Pradesh from its Nagpur-based factory, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said Thursday.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan said he spoke to Maharashtra’s chief minister Uddhav Thackeray about the shortage of oxygen cylinders and the latter assured him of maintaining the state’s supply.
Following an increase in cases of respiratory illnesses, Madhya Pradesh needs 110 tons of oxygen per day, according to a statement from the state’s public relations department.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan has also requested oxygen factories in Madhya Pradesh to increase their production to full capacity from 50 to 60 percent currently.
“As part of our long-term planning, we have given the green light to INOX to set up an oxygen plant with an installed capacity of 200 tonnes in Mohasa near Babai in Hoshangabad within the next six months,” he had said.
