Central team to travel to Maharashtra, Gujarat and Telangana to strengthen COVID-19 management efforts

A central team, headed by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Health Lav Agarwal, will travel to Gujarat, Maharashtra and Telangana between June 26 and 29 to coordinate with state officials to strengthen management efforts in COVID-19 in these regions, the ministry announced on Thursday.

According to officials, the team will also examine measures such as testing, the implementation of containment strategies, hospitals and quarantine facilities, treatment protocols, among others undertaken by state authorities for the COVID-19 containment and reduction of deaths.

Maharashtra reported the largest number of 6,739 deaths and 1,422,900 cases. Gujarat has registered 1,735 deaths and 28,943 cases of viral infection, while Telangana has so far reported 225 deaths and 10,444 cases, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

India recorded its worst day-long increase in COVID-19 cases on Thursday, recording more than 16,000 coronavirus infections, bringing the total to 4.73 lakh, with the number of deaths also increasing by 418, said the Union Ministry of Health.

The ministry said there were 33.39 cases of COVID-19 in India for each lakh population, compared to a world average of 114.67.

In addition, the country has 1.06 deaths per lakh population, which is among the lowest in the world, while the world average is 6.24, he said.

As a result of efforts to increase facilities across the country, there are a total of 1,007 diagnostic laboratories, of which 734 are in the public sector and 273 are private. According to the COVID-19 tests limited in January, a cumulative total of 75 60 782 samples were tested until June 24 and 2,077,771 tests were performed on Wednesday.
