New Delhi:
The center on Friday called on states to ensure strict implementation of interior ministry guidelines on house isolation on the ground to effectively curb the spread of coronavirus, after taking note of lax cases in some cases.
The Department of Health and Family Welfare released revised guidelines for household isolation on May 10, which remain in effect to this day, according to an official statement.
According to the guidelines, very mild and pre-symptomatic COVID-19 patients can opt for home isolation, provided that the patient has a room for himself with a toilet and an adult attendant or caregiver.
In addition, the patient must agree to monitor their health and regularly report the status of the district surveillance officer for further follow-up by surveillance teams, he said.
An important clause of the revised guidelines is that the attending physician is satisfied that the patient opts for home isolation on the basis of a medical assessment and an assessment of his accommodation, said the ministry.
In addition, the patient must complete a self-isolation commitment and follow the home quarantine guidelines, he said.
In addition, all such cases of home isolation should be monitored regularly by teams of well-oriented doctors, their release should follow the required guidelines and be reported according to standards, the center said.
“In this regard, certain cases have been found in which home segregation is authorized routinely in certain States, and the clauses of the revised directives are not followed in letter and spirit,” he said. declared.
This could lead to a spread of the disease among family members and neighbors, even more in urban environments such as dense urban agglomerations, the center said.
In this regard, the Ministry of Health has asked states to ensure strict implementation of the guidelines on the isolation of outbreaks in the field in order to effectively curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have collectively followed the testing, tracing, tracking and isolation policy and this might not be possible if the guidelines issued are not implemented in letter and spirit,” said Lav Agarwal, co-secretary of the Ministry of Health, in his letter to the States.
“It is again reaffirmed that congested urban agglomerations which exercise the option of isolation in the home can lead to the spread of the infection by the patient to family members and in the neighborhood. In this context, it is asked to ensure strict application of the directives on the isolation of the home in the field, “he said.
