Bombay:
In a caustic attack on the BJP, the Shiv Sena said on Tuesday that “celebrating” the fourth anniversary of the demonetization because of which many people “committed suicide” and businesses destroyed was like cutting birthday cakes on their graves.
In an editorial by its spokesperson “Saamana”, the Sena called the 2016 decision a “dark chapter” in Indian history.
He said the ban on tickets and the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) hit the country’s interests hard. “Celebrating the (demonetization) decision that caused so many people to embrace death… jobs were lost… suicides committed and trades and industries destroyed is like cutting a cake from birthday laid on the graves of all these people, ”editorial said.
Speaking on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 banknotes on November 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this decision had helped reduce black currency and increase transparency.
The Sena also said the BJP raised issues such as the construction of the Ram Temple and the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput in Bihar Assembly polls, but they failed to click with people.
“But the atmosphere in Bihar changed after (RJD leader) Tejashwi Yadav pledged 10 lakh jobs. His rallies saw huge turnarounds (in the population). They were mostly unemployed youth. does that indicate? ” asked the Shiv Sena.
