Jaipur:
Ruining that many children still have to work as bonded laborers, Rajasthan’s chief minister Ashok Gehlot said on Friday that it was not possible to abolish child labor without ending poverty.
Mr. Gehlot made this observation by expressing his government’s desire to ensure that no child has to work in the state.
He said the government of Rajasthan respects children’s rights and intervenes effectively to ensure that there is no incident of child labor or child marriage in the state.
While saying his government is working to ensure that there is no crime or violence against children, he said he will ensure that the benefits of various government programs reach children as well.
Mr. Gehlot made the remarks while addressing a virtual “Bal Sangam” program on the eve of Children’s Day on November 14th. The state will celebrate Children’s Rights Week from November 14 to 20.
On this occasion, he also inaugurated by videoconference a vocational training and counseling center in Jodhpur.
The chief minister also inaugurated a skills development center for children in Jodhpur, which will work in conjunction with ICICI bank and provide training and counseling to children living in child protection homes.
On this occasion, he also published a booklet containing guidelines for the implementation of “Vatsalya Yojana” and “Samarth Yojana” for the benefit of children of the state.
He said that as the state government tries to reach children with its social protection programs, every person in society will also have to come forward to protect children’s rights.
