BJP’s Surendra Singh is known to have made sexist remarks in the past.

The remark by Surendra Singh, member of the BJP of Uttar Pradesh, that “cases of rape can only be stopped with sanskar (culture) and not governance” has provoked strong criticism on social networks.
The BJP chief, known for his controversial comments, was responding to a question on Saturday about the surge in crimes against women amid massive outrage over the alleged gang rape and torture of a 20-year-old woman from Hathras in the ‘Uttar Pradesh, died in Delhi last week. Speaking to a reporter, he seemed to put the blame on the women.
“I am a teacher besides being an MP. Such incidents (like rape) can only be stopped with sanskar (culture), not with shasan (good governance) or talwar (referring to the sword or force) ”, UP BJP deputy of Dit Ballia.

Actor Kriti Sanon lashed out at the head of the BJP by asking “why don’t they give sanskars to their sons”. “Teach girls not to be raped ??? Can he hear himself talk? It’s MINDSET that has to change! It’s so messed up! Why can’t they give their sons sanskaar ?? ? ” she tweeted.

Actor and activist Swara Bhasker shared an old video of himself, where he is heard making derogatory comments about the Unnao rape case in 2018. “This little man is an old sinner,” she tweeted in Hindi.
Yesterday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also responded to these remarks. “It’s the dirty chauvinistic masculine RSS mentality at work. Men rape but women have to learn good values,” he said, commenting on BJP leader Surendra Singh’s remark on Twitter. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or RSS is the ideological mentor of the BJP who rules the UP and at the center.
The BJP MP, however, today hit back at the former congressional leader, saying, “Rahul is a person of dual character and an alien mind. He is totally ignorant of Indian culture. He will understand the definition of nationalism. ‘he’s taking nationalist classes. He couldn’t understand the core of the country’s culture. “
