Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will campaign in Bihar today, this morning called on voters to come out in large numbers while adhering to government-mandated social distancing standards to control the spread of the coronavirus. This is PM Modi’s fourth visit to the state in recent weeks; it will be aimed at two rallies.
“Bihar will vote today for the second phase. I call on all residents of the state to come out in large numbers and make this festival of democracy a success. Please respect social distancing and wear a mask,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted in Hindi. , shortly before the start of the poll at 7 am. Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, polling times have been extended by one hour, except in areas affected by the Maoists. Voting takes place today in 94 of the state’s 243 assembly seats.
In another tweet, Prime Minister Modi said: “Today partial ballots are taking place in various places in India. I urge those who vote in these seats to vote in large numbers and strengthen the festival of democracy.” Bypasses are being organized today in 54 headquarters in 10 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Jharkhand and Nagaland.

In Bihar, LJP leader Chirag Paswan, who split from Nitish Kumar, to go solo, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Governor Phagu Chauhan were among the first voters. “I call on the people to participate in large numbers in the elections. I hope that the percentage of vote will be higher than the previous time”, declared the governor quoted by the ANI news agency.
In the first phase, the state registered a vote percentage of 53%.
RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav, his brother Tej Pratap Yadav, Shatrguhan Sinha’s son Luv Sinha, seven ministers of state are among the main candidates for the second phase. “For better education, health facilities, law and order … and a developed Bihar, please vote.
