According to Guinness World Records, the world‘s oldest man died of cancer in Britain at the age of 112, his family confirmed on Thursday.
Thursday morning, Bob Weighton, a former professor and engineer from central Hampshire county, died “peacefully” in his sleep at home.
Weighton took the title of the world‘s oldest man in February after the death of former holder Chitetsu Watanabe of Japan.
“The Weighton family are very sad to announce the death of our beloved Bob Weighton,” relatives said in a statement to the British press wire.
“A model for all of us, he lived his life interested and engaged with all kinds of people around the world.
“He had many friends and read and talked about politics, theology, ecology and more, until his death.
“He also cared a lot about the environment.”
The family said they were thankful that Weighton remained witty, kind, knowledgeable and a talker “until the end”.
Weighton was born in Yorkshire in the north of England on March 29, 1908 and was one of seven children.
He is survived by his three children, 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was recognized as the oldest man in the world after Guinness World Records senior gerontology consultant Robert Young examined the evidence of his birth after Watanabe’s death earlier this year.
South African Fredie Blom claims to have celebrated his 116th birthday this month, but his age has not yet been verified by the body of records.
