New Delhi:
On Friday, the BJP denounced criminal incidents in Rajasthan to Congress, claiming law and order in the state had “drawn lots” and called on Rahul Gandhi to pay attention instead of traveling to states ruled by the BJP for “political tourism”.
BJP leaders, including Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, cited the murder of a temple priest who was allegedly burned alive by land grabbers in Karauli in the congressional state. They also attacked Congress for recent crimes, including rape, in the Desert State.
Taking a glance at Rahul Gandhi, Mr. Javadekar said: “Instead of going to different places for political tourism, he should realize the heinous crimes against women and apologize to the people of Rajasthan for the failure of their government. “
Action should be taken against the culprits, he said.
“Law and order in Rajasthan has been launched,” the minister said, referring to the Karauli incident.
Former Union Minister and BJP spokesperson Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said no one, whether women or children, was safe in Rajasthan.
A government that spends weeks in a five-star hotel can only ensure its own safety and not that of people, he said, apparently referring to congressmen, including ministers, who have set up in a hotel luxury a few months ago when the dispensation faced a crisis following the rebellion by then Deputy CM Sachin Pilot.
The state has the dubious distinction of being number one in crimes against women, Mr. Rathore said.
“Instead of political tourism in the states ruled by the BJP, Rahul Gandhi should pay attention to Rajasthan,” he said.
