Bishnu Das died, former minister of Odisha and deputy of Biju Janata Dal of Tirtol, died Monday in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 66 years old.
Officials said he was rushed to hospital after complaining of discomfort earlier today.
Expressing his sorrow over Das’ death, Odisha’s chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, said he was a popular leader, a skilled organizer and a knowledgeable administrator.
“His contribution to the development of the Jagatsinghpur region has been exemplary, he has devoted his life to raising the poor, the backward and the distressed,” said Mr. Patnaik.
Das was a former minister and six times a member of the riding of Tirtol. He was elected a Rajya Sabha member in 2016. Later in 2017, he resigned from Rajya Sabha after being appointed vice chairman of the Planning Council of Odisha State.
