Guwahati:
Famous Bhojpuri singer Kalpana Patowary joined Asom Gana Parishad on Friday.
Ms Patowary, who was previously a member of the BJP, joined her ally AGP at its headquarters in Guwahati in the presence of party chairman Atul Bora and ministers Keshav Mahanta and Phani Bhushan Choudhury, among others.
She said that as an Assamese, she was attached to her homeland and had the responsibility to work for the implementation of the various clauses of the Assam Accord.
Meanwhile, members of several Bodo organizations outside the Bodoland Territorial Region joined the BJP.
United Bodo People organization president Mihineswar Basumatary, 21 state committee members, district committee chairs and over 700 members joined the BJP in a ceremony.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that members of an indigenous community like the Bodos joining the BJP prove that the motto of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas“(With all, development for all) becomes a reality.
He claimed that Assam was under attack by various forces but that all should unite to fight against hostile forces and help build a strong state.
“The current state government is determined to ensure that the state emerges as one of the strongest in the country and the BJP is the only party that can translate this into reality,” he said.
NEDA official Himanta Biswa Sarma, welcoming the new party members, said the BJP had grown even stronger with these memberships.
