Kolkata:

No exports to Bangladesh via the Petrapole border took place on Thursday due to continued unrest from Bangladesh traders and their workers, demanding that India authorize imports from the neighboring country.

The agitators, who started their turmoil on Wednesday blocking the entry of Indian trucks for several hours, said the border would remain sealed until India authorized the import.

“Today, there has been no export from India via Petrapole,” said President of the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) (East) Sushil Patwari and asked for the minister’s intervention. head of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee.

Some trucks of perishable goods diverted their cargo to Gojadanga, a small land port in the north of the 24 Parganas.

“We have not allowed any trucks to enter Benapole. This will continue until India resumes importing our goods,” said Benapole C&F Agent Staff Association secretary Sajidur Rehman.

Benapole is the place across the border from Petrapole.

“Our exporters and a large number of export workers suffer from the delay on the Indian side in authorizing shipments from us,” said Mr. Rehman.

Exporters from West Bengal have already requested the intervention of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in this matter.

“Indian manufacturers, including MSMEs, lack essential supplies and raw materials because imports are not allowed. Since Bangladesh has allowed the entry of Indian goods, it is necessary to import their cargo to maintain the balance commercial, “said Mr. Patwari in a letter to the chief minister.
