It is a very holy month for Muslims around the world when the Haj pilgrimage takes place. “Dhu al-Hijjah” literally means “the month of pilgrimage”. During this month, Muslims from all over the world gather in Mecca to visit the Kaaba.

Eid al-Adha or Bakr Eid 2020 date

Bakr Eid is celebrated on July 31 around the world, according to the date announced by Saudi Arabia. However, the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid of Delhi said, the festival of Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on August 1 in India according to moon observation.

Importance of Eid al-Adha

Eid al-Adha honors Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael to show his obedience to God’s command as he repeatedly dreamed of it. But, before Ibrahim could sacrifice his son, God provided a lamb to be sacrificed instead. Historically, since then, the ritual of sacrificing a sheep or a goat and preparing a meal has been practiced by Muslims.

Traditionally, one portion of the cooked meat is distributed to the poor and needy, the other is reserved for people at home, and the third is given to relatives. Eid al-Adha is about sharing and caring for people in society.
