Amit Shah highlighted the role of the center and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Rath Yatra

New Delhi:

The BJP today congratulated the people of Odisha for the conditional authorization for the Rath Yatra at Puri from the Supreme Court.

The party also said the court, which had previously banned the state’s hugely popular holiday due to the coronavirus pandemic, had rethought after the center prosecuted the case on their behalf.

The Supreme Court said today that the Odisha government could take a final appeal on the matter based on the situation on the ground in the state.

Indicating that they would proceed to the festival, scheduled for tomorrow, chief minister Naveen Patnaik tweeted “Jai Jagannath”.

In a series of tweets shortly after, Shah highlighted the role of the center and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Last night, in accordance with PM @narendramodi’s instructions, I spoke to Gajapati Maharaj Ji (the king of Puri) and the respected Shankaracharya Ji of Puri and asked for their opinion on the Yatra. This morning, on the instructions PM, I also spoke to the Solicitor General, “tweeted Mr. Shah.

A second tweet said: “Given the urgency and the importance of the case, she was placed before a Supreme Court vacation bench and the hearing was held this afternoon, which paved the way for the important decision of the SC. Congratulations to the people of Odisha. “

The center, which filed the petition for review, had argued that Rath Yatra was a “matter of faith for crores” and that a ritual “lasting for centuries could not be changed”.

To this, the judges had replied that Lord Jagannath would not forgive them if they allowed the festival to progress amid the pandemic.

The festival should now be held as part of a curfew that will end at 9 a.m. this evening. The faithful should watch the debates on television.

“I warmly welcome the decision of the Supreme Court,” tweeted Nadda.

“I sincerely thank Prime Minister @narendramodi who immediately began discussions with all parties while respecting the spirit of the faithful. I thank our honorable Minister of the Interior @AmitShah whose significant efforts paved the way for the restart of the saint rath yatra, “added his other tweet. Read in Hindi.
