Longest day of the year: During the summer solstice, the day is longer and the nights are shorter.

New Delhi:

The summer solstice, also known as the summer or mid-summer solstice, occurs when one of the Earth’s poles has its maximum tilt toward the Sun. This happens twice a year, once in each hemisphere (north and south). For this hemisphere, the summer solstice is when the Sun reaches its highest position in the sky and is the day with the longest period of daylight. In the Arctic Circle (for the northern hemisphere) or the Antarctic Circle (for the southern hemisphere), daylight is continuous around the summer solstice. During the summer solstice, the day is longer and the nights are shorter.

The summer season solstice falls during the June solstice in the northern hemisphere. The summer solstice takes place between June 20 and June 22, depending on the time difference.

The December solstice in the southern hemisphere takes place between December 20 and December 23. The same dates in the opposite hemisphere are called the winter solstice.

The solstice of the summer season has been considered an important time of the year in many cultures and has been marked by festivals and rituals. Traditionally, the summer solstice is considered to be mid-summer and called “mid-summer”. Today, however, in some countries and calendars, it is considered the start of summer.

This year, the summer solstice will fall tomorrow, that is June 21, 2020. Not only will we be witnessing the start of summer, but the world will also observe the first solar eclipse of this year with the Day World Yoga and World Music Day and Father’s Day.
