Actress Alia Bhatt is part of the new celebrity list, which this year received invitations to join the Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences. Just a day after the Academy of Oscars shared the full guest list of celebrities from the entertainment fraternity around the world, Alia shared a statement on social media that she was “honored” to to have been chosen. “I thank the Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences for inviting me to become a member of the Academy. I feel honored and humiliated,” read the 27-year-old actor’s note. The Academy also sent out invitations to actor Hrithik Roshan, documentary filmmakers Nishtha Jain and Amit Madheshiya, designer Neeta Lulla, casting director Nandini Shrikent, visual effects supervisors Vishal Anand and Sandeep Kamal this year.
In her note, Alia Bhatt wrote about Indian cinema, which is becoming more and more recognized on the world stage each year: Each year, more and more Indian actors, filmmakers and technicians are recognized by the Academy and Indian cinema continues to touch the hearts and homes of people around the world. “
Alia also wrote how the essence of the movies is not limited by casting or class and is a “unifying force”: “I really believe that cinema, like water, finds its level. It takes everything in its course: the public, who loves or hates it passionately, the critics who dissect it, the students who immerse themselves in it. Alia concluded her article on a wonderful note, describing films as the force that binds people around the world: “In a world that can be uncertain and fragmented, at a time when social media that aims to connect people ends up dividing them, films are the glue that binds us. “
The Academy, in their biography, identified Alia Bhatt with some of her critically acclaimed films such as Raazi and Gully boy, which was India’s official entry for the Oscars 2020 but was unable to reach the final list.

The guest list for this year’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences includes 36% people of color and 45% women, which aims to spur diversity among Oscar nominees. Invitations have also been sent to The farewell star Awkwafina, who was snubbed at the Oscars this year, Eva Longoria, Joker actor Zazie Beetz and future Bond girl Ana de Armas. Disney child star Zendaya (for Spider-Man: away from home) and Constance Wu, best known for her performances in Hustlers and Crazy Rich Asians.
