Dynamic after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Arjun tank ride in Jaisalmer, the Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO) on Saturday expressed hope that it will soon receive an order for the supply of 118 Arjun Mark 1A tanks, which are much more advanced than the current version.
“We were very proud to see the Prime Minister take a ride in the Arjun tank in the deserts of Jaisalmer. We now hope that the army will soon place orders for two more Arjun Mark 1A tank regiments”, “V Balaguru, scientist of the DRDO says ANI.
Mr. Balaguru is the Associate Director of the DRDO Combat Vehicle Research Development Research Center Laboratory in Chennai.
The army has so far introduced 124 Arjun tanks, which have been deployed in the deserts of Jaisalmer, along the border with Pakistan.
Mr Balaguru said the Arjun Mark 1A has 72 additional features compared to its old version with the ability to support anti-tank mines by its own plows.
The 12.7 inch air defense cannon can also be operated from inside the tank by the tank commander using a remote control without being exposed to enemy fire.
The two outgoing regiments are deployed around Jaisalmer as part of an armored brigade there.
