Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has attacked the BJP-led UP government for the gang rape and murder of Hathras.

Calcutta:

Striking the government of Uttar Pradesh for its handling of the alleged rape and murder of a 20-year-old woman from Hathras and for the “forced cremation” of her body without her family’s consent, the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee today accused the BJP of using and torturing the Dalit community to vote.

Hours after tweeting about the ‘barbaric and shameful incident’ that sparked outrage across the country, Ms Banerjee – preparing to fight in next year’s National Assembly elections with the BJP as the main opponent – also attacked the party, but not by name.

“During the election, they will go to a Dalit house, look for food from outside, eat it and say that we ate in a Dalit house. After the elections, they will torture the Dalits, beat them, ”she said at a public event in Jalpaiguri in North Bengal.

Ms Banerjee even invoked the goddess Sita, the wife of Lord Ram, in her fit of anger against the Yogi Adityanath government and the state police. “Sita Mai had to give agnipariksha (trial by fire) once. Today in Uttar Pradesh not only are there rapes, but the victim is burned,” she said.

“If there is a crime, the police must act immediately. We took action in 72 hours. In Uttar Pradesh, not only is there rape, but the victim is burned; no action is taken. What type of governance is it? Ms Banerjee questioned, alleging that some officials even said the victim and her mother should have been burned at the same stake.

Earlier today, Ms Banerjee tweeted, saying: “I have no words to condemn the barbaric and shameful Hathras incident involving a young Dalit girl. My deepest condolences to the family. The more shameful the cremation is. forced, which exposes those who use slogans. and noble promises of votes. “

A 20-year-old Dalit woman was reportedly raped by four men – all of whom are from a so-called upper caste – in Hathras on September 14. She was referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for spinal cord injuries, paralysis and cuts. in his language. She died on Tuesday.

Uttar Pradesh police have come under increasing criticism for alleged delays in filing a rape complaint, arresting the accused and cremating the woman Hathras near her village in the middle of night against the will of his family, with his parents and brothers locked in their house.
