Patna / Raipur:
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Saturday that the congressional governments of Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan would bring similar agricultural bills to Punjab.
He said the Punjab assembly passed bills to protect the interests of farmers. “Our governments of Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan will present the bills,” Baghel told ANI.
He alleged that three agricultural laws enacted by the Center were aimed at “benefiting capitalists and plundering farmers”.
He said market prices for agricultural products would increase due to the laws and one example was onion which sold for Rs 40 per kg three months ago and its cost had almost doubled.
The Punjab is the first state to reject the three agricultural laws that were passed after the relevant bills were passed during the monsoon session of parliament last month.
The assembly adopted three bills “unanimously” to “protect the MSP and control the hoarding of food grains.”
The House also voted on an amendment to the CRPC to exempt farmers from attaching land up to 2.5 acres.
The assembly adopted the Farmers’ Accord (Empowerment and Protection) on Price Insurance and Agricultural Services (Special Provisions and Punjab Amendment) Bill 2020, the 2020 Bill and the Essential Products Law (Punjab Special Provisions and Amendment), 2020.
Mr. Baghel also said that the head of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, will attend the virtual ceremony to mark the day of the creation of the Chhattisgarh.
