New Delhi:
Actor Rakul Preet Singh addressed the Delhi High Court on Saturday to seek an interim directive from the Center, the Press Council of India and the Association of News Broadcasters to ensure that the media do not broadcast any programs or publish any articles relating to the Rhea Chakraborty drug case. .
The actress has applied for an interim order against the media until such time as the Mumbai Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) completes the investigation and files an appropriate report with the relevant court.
The claim, filed as part of a pending petition, is expected to be heard next week.
On September 17, the High Court called for the Center’s response to Ms Singh’s petition to prevent media reports from linking her to Ms Chakraborty’s drug case and said the media leaks should be investigated because “someone’s reputation is totally destroyed by it.”.
In the request, she said she was in Hyderabad for a shoot and on the evening of September 23 she was shocked to see media reports that NCB summoned her to appear before her in Mumbai the next morning in relation with the drug case.
However, she had not received any summons to either her address in Hyderabad or that of Mumbai and remained in Hyderabad.
The plea claimed that the media had started to spread false information that the actress who was in Hyderabad had reached Mumbai on the evening of September 23 for the NCB investigation.
She said she received the summons on the morning of September 24 via WhatsApp, after which she appeared before the BCN the next day to help with the investigation and made a written statement on the facts to her knowledge.
The app claimed that the media continued to broadcast and publish false information against it.
On September 17, the High Court also called on all authorities to treat her petition as representation and to make a decision on it as soon as possible before the next hearing date on October 15.
He also expressed the hope that “the media houses would exercise restraint in their reporting and respect the regulations of cable television, the program code and various directives, statutory and self-regulating, while making any report concerning the applicant. “.
The actress claimed that on September 19, she made a written request for a personal hearing of each of the respondents, but except for the News Broadcasters Association (NBA), none of them responded.
She said the Association said her representation would be reviewed virtually on September 24, but was not resumed after which she filed a new application in court.
The actress, in her petition, claimed that Ms Chakraborty had already retracted the statement in which she was allegedly named and yet media reports linked her to the drug case.
The NCB investigation stems from the investigation into the death case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
She claimed that, based on unfounded allegations, defamatory programs were broadcast in the media against her, causing her irreparable harm.
The petition also alleged that the ministry, the PCI and the NBA “failed to fulfill their statutory functions of ensuring compliance with their own guidelines, resulting in a flagrant violation of the petitioner’s fundamental rights.”
