The eight police officers were cremated with state honors amidst tears.

DSP daughter Devendra Mishra lit her father’s funeral pyre while he and seven other police officers were cremated with state honors in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, one day after being killed in meeting with criminals in Kanpur district.

The eight men were ambushed in the Chaubeypur police station area as they went to arrest the famous local criminal Vikas Dubey and fell under the rain of bullets fired from the roofs shortly after midnight Friday.

The eight police officers were cremated with state honors amidst tears, police said.

In Kanpur, the final rites of Deputy Police Superintendent Devendra Mishra (54), who was stationed as an officer in the Bilhaur circle, were performed in Bhairon Ghat.

Mr. Mishra’s daughter Vaishnavi lit the funeral pyre. An emotional Vaishnavi could not control his tears and had to be comforted by family members and the police.

Kanpur Chief Police Officer J N Singh, IG Mohit Agarwal and SSP Dinesh Prabhu were present, along with other police and district administration officers.

“Mishra’s martyrdom will not be allowed to go in vain,” said Mr. Prabhu.

The body of sub-inspector Mahesh Kumar Yadav (42) was burnt down in the village of Van Purwa, in the Rae Bareli district.

Mr. adav was assigned as a post officer (SHO) at the Shivrajpur police station.

Manaj Kumar Pandey, Member of Parliament for Unchahar, and Dinesh Pratap Singh of the MLC, as well as Rae Bareli DM Subhra Saxena and SP Swapnil Mamgain were present.

In Pratapgarh, the body of sub-inspector Anoop Kumar Singh (32) was set on fire in the village of Belkhari.

The last rites of the sub-inspector Nebu Lal (48 years old) were performed in the Bhadohi district.

Constable Sultan Singh (34) was cremated in his village Boorha Bhojla in Jhansi.

On Friday evening, the body of Sultan Singh was taken to Jhansi police lines and an honor guard was handed over. Police officers and district administrators paid tribute.

The Inspector General of Police of Jhansi Subhash Baghel, the district magistrate A Vamsi and the Director General of Police D Pradeep Kumar were present.

The last rites of agent Rahul Kumar (24 years old) were performed in Rurukala in Auraiyya in the presence of the Minister of State for Agriculture of the UP, Lakhan Singh Rajput.

Constable Bablu Kumar (23) was cremated in Agra while Jitendra Pal (26), also a police officer, was cremated in Mathura.
