The whale was stranded on Mandarmani Beach in West Bengal.

Kolkata:

A 35-foot whale was washed up on Mandarmani Beach in West Bengal, 150 km from Calcutta, this morning, according to what locals claim to be the first such incident in the region.

The giant head of the whale lay in a pool of blood as locals gathered on the beach to see this tragic sight, never seen before. Why the blood and why there appear to be wound marks on his tail are still unclear.

East Midnapore district officials rushed to the site. The same applies to officials from the Ministries of Forestry and Wildlife and Fisheries.

Mandarmani is a popular tourist destination on the Sea of the Bay of Bengal, near Digha, another tourist attraction of Bengal.

Both places are now closed to tourists due to the coronavirus pandemic.
