78,357 COVID-19 cases in India in 24 hours, total cases cross 37 Lakh

A one-day spike of 78,357 cases took India’s coronavirus count to 37,69,523, data from the Union Ministry of Health showed this morning. The number of deaths rose to 66,333 with 1,045 additional deaths.

29 01 908 patients have recovered from the infection in the country, bringing the cure rate to 76.98%.

Maharashtra remains the state most affected by the pandemic, with 8,080,306 cases of COVID-19, including 24,903 deaths. Maharashttra is followed by three southern states – Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. India is the country with the third highest number of coronavirus cases in the world after the United States and Brazil.

Delhi on Tuesday reported its highest peak in single-day coronavirus cases in nearly two months. The capital reported 2,312 new coronavirus cases and 18 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to more than 1.77 lakh.

Global coronavirus infections topped 2.57 crore as countries tighten restrictions to end the health crisis that has disrupted the lives of most of humanity. More than 8.56 lakh people have died from the infection worldwide.

The United States – the country worst affected by the pandemic – has said it will not work with a global effort to develop and distribute a vaccine for the coronavirus because it does not want to be coerced by multilateral groups like the ‘World Health Organization.
