Jammu:
A 65-year-old woman was killed on Wednesday and another seriously injured by massive bombing by the Pakistani military on advanced areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir , announced the police.
The bombing across the border in the Balakote and Mendhar areas began around 2 a.m., causing heavy retaliation by the Indian army, said a police officer.
He said two women, Resham Bi and Hakam Bi, were seriously injured in the Pakistani bombing of the village of Lanjote and were evacuated to the hospital.
However, Resham Bi later succumbed to his injuries while Hakam bi was referred to Jammu hospital for specialist treatment, he said.
A defense spokesperson said that Pakistan initiated the unprovoked breach of the ceasefire by firing with small arms and firing heavily with mortars at around 2 a.m.
The cross-border bombing on both sides continued for 45 minutes, the spokesman said.
The losses suffered by Pakistan during the reprisals were not immediately known, he said.
