Until Sunday, more than 12.97 lakh people were affected by the flood in Assam (file)

The flooding situation in Assam worsened considerably on Monday, with six other people killed in rain-related incidents, even as the flood affected nearly 22 lakh in 27 districts, according to an official bulletin.

According to the daily flood report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), one person died in Nowboicha de Lakhimpur, Bajali de Barpeta, Manikpur de Bongaigaon, Rangia de Kamrup, Bokakhat de Golaghat and Sivasagar in the districts of Sivasagar.

With these, the total number of people killed in this year’s floods and landslides has increased to 76 across the state, of which 50 people died in the floods and 26 died from landslides.

ASDMA said that more than 12.63 lakh people were affected by the floods in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Udalguri, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Salmara Sud, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan Districts of Morigaon, Nagaon, West Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Karbi Anglong.

Barpeta is the most affected with more than 5.44 lakh of sufferers, followed by South Salmara with almost 1.92 lakh and Dhemaji with more than 1.30 lakh.

As of Sunday, more than 12.97 lakh people have been affected by the deluge in 24 districts of the state.
