Mumbai:

Maharashtra reported 5,257 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the number of infected patients in the state to 1,69,883 while deaths increased by 181, including 21 in Mumbai to 7,610, said an official of health.

Monday is the fourth consecutive day that Maharashtra has reported more than 5,000 cases in a single day.

The state has added more than 20,000 patients in the past four days.

“Of the 181 deaths, 76 have occurred in the past 48 hours and the others earlier, but have not been reported as deaths from COVID-19,” said the official.

With 2,385 patients discharged during the day, the number of patients recovered increased to 88,960, he said.

The number of active patients stands at 73,298. Out of a total of 1,69,883 cases in the state, the city of Mumbai has 76,765 cases and 4,463 deaths.

Mumbai reported 1,226 new cases of COVID-19 and the deaths of 21 people on Monday, the official said.

With this, the Thane division, which includes areas under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has so far recorded 1,22,325 cases and 5,412 deaths.

In the Nashik division, 9,040 people have tested positive so far, of whom 521 have died, while in the Pune division, the total count has been 24,980, with 1,040 deaths.

The number of cases in the city of Pune was 17,223, while the death toll was 634, he said.

In the Kolhapur division, 1,997 cases were reported with 51 deaths, while in the Aurangabad division, the number of cases rose to 6,004 with 258 deaths.

Latur’s division is approaching 1000, with 981 cases and 43 deaths, said the official.

There are 2,654 cases in the Akola division and 126 deaths, while the Nagpur division has so far reported 1,817 cases and 18 deaths.

Some patients from other states are also being treated in various hospitals in Maharashtra, the official said.

There are 85 cases of COVID-19, while 23 have died so far, he added.

A total of 5,744,093 people are currently under quarantine at home and 37,758 others under institutional quarantine.

So far, 9.43,485 people have been tested in the state, he added.
