New Delhi:

The Delhi Police Special Cell said it had arrested a group of four radicalized Kashmiri youths who allegedly planned terrorist strikes in the nation’s capital.

In a statement, police said the defendants were arrested in the ITO area of central Delhi and carried four sophisticated pistols and more than 120 rounds.

The accused have been identified as Altaf Ahmad Dar, 25, a resident of Pulwama, and Mushtaq Ahmad Gani, 27, Ishfaq Majeed Koka, 28, and Aqib Safi, 22, all residents of Shopian, the statement said.

“Ishfaq is the older brother of slain terrorist Burhan Koka, former leader of Ansar Ghajwat Ul Hind, an offshoot of Al Qaeda in Jammu and Kashmir,” police said.

They said Burhan Koka was killed during a meeting in the Shopian area of Melhora on April 29 this year with two other associates. After his death, his older brother Ishfaq Majeed Koka was approached by Ansar Ghajwat Ul Hind executives to work for the terrorist group, police said.

“On Friday, police received reports that a group of radicalized Kashmiri youths had gathered a huge cache of weapons and ammunition and were going to ITO and Daryaganj.

“Subsequently, a trap was set near the ITO and the accused were apprehended,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah.

Preliminary questioning revealed that Ishfaq was allegedly indoctrinated by the current leader of Ansar Ghajwat Ul Hind.

Ishfaq further indoctrinated Altaf Ahmad Dar, his cousin Aaqib and Gani, police said.

As instructed by their master, they came to Delhi on September 27 and were camping in Paharganj, the DCP said.

While in Delhi, they collected weapons and ammunition, he said.

They had plans for sensational terrorist activity and subsequently they would be formally inducted into Ansar Ghajwat Ul Hind, Kushwah said, adding that further investigation is underway.
