Hundreds of drones lit up the night sky in Seoul for a spectacular showcase of motivational and awareness-raising messages as the world battles the coronavirus pandemic.
Three hundred unmanned aerial vehicles have been programmed to form images over the Han River – which crosses the South Korean capital – for the eye-catching flash mob.
The show began with messages reminding people of the main precautions, including wearing masks, washing hands and being two meters away from others.
The drones created images of a mask surrounded by particles of coronavirus, mixing quickly to form two hands and water droplets against the dark night sky.
The 10-minute program turned into messages of gratitude for medical personnel on the front line of the pandemic as well as for all South Koreans for their collective efforts.
“THANKS”, wrote the drones in the sky next to a heart shape, then formed a silhouette of the Korean peninsula with the message: “Rest assured, Republic of Korea”.
The government-sponsored event on Saturday evening was not announced in advance in consideration of the rules of social distancing, said the Ministry of Transport.
