The United States has recorded 288 deaths from COVID-19 in 24 hours, according to a count by Johns Hopkins University on Sunday, the infection rate remaining high as the country tries to control a new outbreak of the disease .
The world‘s largest economy is the country hardest hit by the pandemic, with 125,768 deaths in more than 2.5 million cases, according to the Baltimore-based institution at 8:30 p.m. (00:30 GMT Monday).
Bars in Los Angeles and six other California counties were ordered to close again on Sunday as parts of the country reimpose closures in an attempt to quell a recent rapid surge in coronavirus cases.
