London:

Britain has increased the amount of dexamethasone it has in stock and on the order of 2,400,000 doses, Health Minister Matt Hancock said on Wednesday after a preliminary test result showed it reduced mortality in the most severe cases of COVID-19.

Britain quickly backed the steroid after researchers at the University of Oxford on Tuesday announced the preliminary results of their trial, claiming that it had accumulated a stock of 2,000,000 drugs.

“This is the first time anyone in the world has clinically proven that a drug can improve the chances of survival for the most seriously ill coronavirus patients,” Hancock told Parliament.

“To date, we have 2.40,000 doses in stock and on order. And that means the treatment is immediately available and already in use on the NHS (National Health Service).”
