Coronavirus cases in India have passed the 6 lakh mark

Live Coronavirus Updates: India’s first coronavirus vaccine could be launched by August 15, with accelerated efforts from the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) to develop “Covaxin” in partnership with Bharat Biotech International Limited. A dozen institutes have been selected for clinical trials of the native COVID-19 vaccine (BBV152 COVID vaccine), said the government’s main medical research organization.

Scientists around the world are rushing to produce a vaccine against the deadly virus that has infected more than 10 million people, including 600,000 in India, and killed more than 500,000.

COVID-19 counts in India reached 6,255,544 with the largest single-day increase of 20,903 cases, while the death toll rose to 18,213, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health ‘Union.

Maharashtra on Friday reported another highest increase in coronavirus cases with 6,364 new patients detected, bringing the number of cases in the state to 19,290. The number of pandemic deaths increased to 8,376 , with 198 new deaths reported, according to a statement from the health department.

Tamil Nadu, the second worst state affected by a coronavirus in the country, crossed the mark of a lakh on Friday when 4 329 people tested positive for the highly infectious virus in one day. With an addition of 64, the state’s death toll stood at 1,385, according to government data.
