A shootout at a Walmart distribution center in Red Bluff, California, killed at least two people and injured four others on Saturday night, officials said.

The incident started around 3:30 p.m. Pacific time, according to the local sheriff’s office.

The deputy sheriff of Tehama County said that the attacker had surrounded the parking lot of the center four times before crushing his vehicle in the building and opening fire with a semi-automatic rifle.

The gunman killed an employee before the police shot him.

Authorities identified the employee as Martin Haro-Lozano, 45, from Orland, California.

Walmart said it is aware of the situation and is working with law enforcement officials.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident,” the company said in a statement.

“This is an active police investigation and we will continue to work with the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office and assist it as much as possible,” he added.

The injured were transported to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff.

Local media have reported that the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a criminal investigation with the help of the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Red Bluff is a city of approximately 14,000 people located approximately 130 miles (210 km) north of Sacramento, California.
