Coronavirus: India is the second most affected country in the world after the United States.

With 46,963 new cases, the number of COVID-19 cases in India has increased to over 81.84 lac cases, while the death toll from the highly contagious disease has reached 1.22 lakh with 470 new deaths, according to figures from the Union Ministry of Health this morning. Over 71.91 lakh coronavirus patients have recovered in the country so far; the recovery rate climbed to 91.5%. India has seen a drop in new infections since September, but experts have warned of a possible spike during festival season, which will continue until mid-November. India is the second most affected country in the world after the United States, which has nearly 94 lakh infections.

  1. The national capital, Delhi, has recorded more than 3.86 lakh cases of the coronavirus, including 6,511 deaths, since the start of the pandemic. Delhi has reported 5,062 coronavirus cases and 41 deaths in the past 24 hours.

  2. Maharashtra remains the state most affected by the pandemic, with more than 16 lakh COVID -19 cases, including 43,911 deaths. 5,548 cases have been reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of deaths to 74.

  4. Tamil Nadu’s Agriculture Minister R Doraikkannu, who tested positive for coronavirus, died last night at a private hospital in Chennai. He was 72 years old.

  5. India’s COVID-19 (CFR) case fatality rate fell below 1.5% on Saturday, the Union Health Ministry said, attributing to the Center-led strategy of “ testing , trace, track and treat ” to keep coronavirus-related deaths low and in manageable numbers.

  6. Classes 9 and above in schools as well as colleges will be allowed to reopen from November 16 with COVID-19 safety standards, the government of Tamil Nadu announced on Saturday. Theaters can reopen a week before that with 50% occupancy.

  7. Although the spread of the coronavirus is on the decline across the country, an outbreak in Delhi, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu has worried the central government.

  8. Britain has recorded more than a million cases of the coronavirus during the global pandemic, with nearly 22,000 new infections reported in the past 24 hours, official figures showed on Saturday.

  9. COVID-19 patients who were given a new antibody had fewer symptoms and were less likely to require hospitalization or emergency medical care than those who did not receive treatment, according to a new study.

  10. More than 94,000 new infections were recorded in the United States on Friday – another new record – and the total number of cases topped nine million, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
