New Delhi:
Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor and his family assets worth more than 2,200 crore rupees, including properties in London, New York and Mumbai, have been seized by management law enforcement today under anti-money laundering law.
The properties include farmland and resorts in Delhi, Mumbai and Goa and properties in central London and New York. Rs 50 crore in fixed deposit was also attached by the agency.
This is the first set of attachments by the agency in the case.
The agency accused Rana Kapoor, family members and others of using Yes Bank to make large loans in exchange for “bribes” which the bank then turned into non-performing assets ( NPA).
The Law Enforcement Department and the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) have already laid charges in May and June respectively against Rana Kapoor and her family.
CBI had laid charges against Rana Kapoor, his wife Bindu and daughter Roshini, among others, last month in connection with an alleged bribe of 600 crore rupees received from DHFL promoter corrupted by a scam Kapil Wadhawan .
Officials also said that the properties of the DHFL promoter brothers, Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan, worth 1,400 crore rupees, had also been attached as part of an interim order issued by him under the Money Laundering Prevention Act (PMLA). This includes 12 apartments, land in Pune, properties in London, Australia and New York.
Rana Kapoor, 62, wife and three daughters among 13 accused named by CBI in spiral investigation into corruption and money laundering linked to Yes Bank, India’s fourth largest private lender . Several raids were carried out on places linked to the family and Rana Kapoor was arrested in March. He is currently in police custody.
