Ahmedabad:
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said on Monday that Congress was a “sinking ship” and that there would be more defections from the opposition party after the Nov. 3 bypasses to eight seats in the ‘State.
Addressing a rally to vote in support of BJP candidate Jitu Chaudhary in Kaprada town of Valsad district, Rupani said the by-elections were necessary because eight congressmen resigned.
“Congress is falling apart across the country. It is a sinking ship. The time has come to bury Congress with the last nail in its coffin,” he said.
He claimed that congressional workers had no confidence in the leadership of their party.
“Questions are also being raised about Rahul Gandhi’s ability to lead. Party workers are trying to break free from dynastic leadership. Party workers are still unhappy and Congress will see more defections after this bypass,” the party said. chief minister.
“The deputies realized that it was difficult to do people’s jobs while being in Congress, because the party believes in keeping one happy family. Jitubhai (Chaudhary) joined the BJP for the sake of his constituency, ”he said.
Mr. Rupani noted that a number of congressmen have also left the party in the past.
In 2017, Congress heavyweight Shankersinh Vaghela left the party along with 13 other MPs, followed by the exit of six MPs next year and now eight lawmakers, he said.
Jitu Chaudhary is the BJP candidate for the headquarters of Kaprada, one of eight constituencies where by-elections were required as eight congressmen resigned ahead of Rajya Sabha’s election in June this year.
The defection helped the BJP win an additional seat in Rajya Sabha’s election.
Of the eight MPs who resigned, five, including Mr. Chaudhary, joined the BJP and the ruling party nominated them for the bypasses.
Besides Kaprada, the other seats where the bypolls will be held on November 3 are -Limbdi, Karjan, Abdasa, Gadhada, Dang, Morbi and Dhari.
