New Delhi:
National Simplicity Day is celebrated annually on July 12 to honor the life, work and philosophies of leading poet, author and transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau. Born July 12, 1817, Thoreau was a partisan of a simple life and has written a number of books on the subject.
His most popular book Walden is a reflection on simple living in a natural environment.
Day of the significance of simplicity
With our world surrounded by cellphones, laptops and other modern gadgets, the day of simplicity is of great importance these days. Since we rarely have time to live true peace in our hectic lives, this day gives a chance to avoid gadgets for a day and enjoy the feeling of being really in the moment.
How to celebrate simplicity day
Read Walden
Henry David Thoreau moved into a cabin in the woods for two years away from society to write his reflection of that time in Walden. So there could not be a better day to pick up the book than his birthday.
Stay away from your devices
It can be difficult to get through the day without checking work emails, posting to social media accounts, or catching up on your favorite shows, but try unplugging your laptops and smartphones for a day. The results may surprise you.
While Simplicity Day encourages you to give up all of life’s complications, take some time to avoid the complications.
