Jaipur:

Castigating Interior Minister Amit Shah for targeting Congress, Rajasthan Prime Minister Ashok Gehlot asked why there was no one beyond Prime Minister Narendra Modi and himself in the BJP .

Attacking Congress on the 45th anniversary of the imposition of the emergency in the country earlier today, Interior Minister Amit Shah, in a series of tweets, said that his party leaders felt “stifled” and that the disconnection of the party with the people did not stop widening.

In an apparent reference to the Gandhi family, Mr. Shah alleged that the “interests of one family” took precedence over the party and the nation and wondered why the “emergency mentality” still existed there.

Responding to criticism, Gehlot said that Amit Shah and PM Modi had “hijacked” the government of the BJP and the NDA without any breaks for the other leaders.

He said that outside of three to four ministers, the public “does not even know who all are in the Modi cabinet”.

“It has only been six years since the BJP and we can see how they dismantled the democratic, ethnic and social fabric of this nation. May we know why there is no one beyond Modi-Shah at the BJP,” said he questioned.

Gehlot also said that only Congress has the courage and the strength to face the “tyranny” of the current regime.

Gehlot said he was not surprised that among all the opposition parties, Prime Minister Modi and Interior Minister Shah were only concerned with Congress.

“They are not capable of questioning the democratic values of the Congress Party and the CWC,” he tweeted, while quoting the statement by BJP veteran LK Advani that “the forces that can crush democracy are stronger ~ CHECK ~ I don’t have confidence that (Emergency) cannot happen again “.

He defended the Gandhi family, saying it is “no secret” that no one among them “has held any office of power” in the past three decades.

“They have always encouraged and empowered the Congressional cadre and ground worker like me and if we are out of touch with the public, why is Shah so worried?” he said in a series of tweets.

Gehlot also said that “sacrifice is inherent” in the DNA of Congress.

(Former Prime Minister) Indira Gandhi sacrificed her life for the nation and her contribution to the creation of Bangladesh as a new nation “will always remain India’s greatest diplomatic victory,” said Gehlot.

The chief minister also recalled the contribution of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and said that he had given his life for the nation.
