New Delhi:
The WhatsApp messaging app crashed in India and around the world in the early hours of Wednesday, with thousands of users reporting issues in the popular end-to-end encrypted app.
According to Down Detector, which monitors and provides real-time status and failure information, users have started reporting issues since 1:32 a.m.
Most users (72%) reported problems logging in, sending or receiving messages, and problems logging in.
Many of the more than 1.5 billion users, both on Android and iOS, were unable to connect to the app. The reason for the hitch has not yet been announced by the company.
On various social networks, including Twitter, users have published articles on the issues they were facing with the popular cross-platform messaging app.
“Has anyone noticed that WhatsApp is down … Or is it just me …” wrote a user on Twitter.
Another tweeted: “WhatsApp is down even after uninstalling, reinstalling and restarting my phone.”
“I’m coming to Twitter to confirm if WhatsApp is really down #WhatsApp,” wrote another user.
#whatsappdown quickly started to become a trend on Twitter.
Downdetector.com had users from Sri Lanka, Peru, London, New Delhi, New York, Brazi, Netherlands, Germany, Egypt, Colmbia, Kazakhstan, Sweden, Romania, Trinidad and Tobago, Ireland, etc., reporting the failure.
However, shortly after, the platform resumed operation.
It is not the first time that the messaging application has stopped working. WhatsApp users faced a similar problem twice in January 2019.
