New Delhi:
Bihar’s election next month will be the world‘s largest voting exercise to be held during the coronavirus era. The Election Commission announced a series of measures to protect against infection during campaigning and voting. The head of the electoral commission, Sunil Arora, said this was part of the “new normal” of the global pandemic.
Here are the main changes:
- Voting hours have been increased by one hour. Voting from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. instead of the usual 5 p.m.
- People infected with Covid and virus suspects will vote separately
- People in quarantine can vote at the end of voting time
- All physical contact was prohibited during the campaign
- The Election Commission has a list of grounds available for a public rally with distancing
