The West Bengal government today extended the coronavirus lockdown in the state until June 15 with flexibility and conditions.
The announcement came before the end of the fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown on May 31.
“The government of West Bengal has decided to extend the lockout for two weeks, that is, until 06/15/2020, with further relaxations with conditions,” said an order from the government of State.
The order stated that it is deemed necessary to continue to implement locking in the affected areas – containment areas – to effectively contain the spread of COVID-19 and simultaneously initiate activities in other areas for revival socioeconomic.
The West Bengal government order stated that indoor and outdoor activities related to television and film production, with the exception of the production of reality TV shows, including for the web portal and OTT platforms, with a maximum of 35 people per unit at a time will be authorized with effect from June. 1.
Earlier today, the Union’s interior ministry said the national foreclosure of the containment zones would continue until June 30 and, in parallel, it announced numerous relaxations, including the opening of religious places and shopping centers gradually from June 8.
The center has given more powers to the States and Union territories to determine and define a containment zone. He asked the Union Ministry of Health to issue standard operating procedures for these sectors after consulting with other ministries, departments and other stakeholders in order to guarantee social distancing and contain the spread of COVID-19 .
