The West Bengal government on Tuesday announced the extension of the lockdown of containment areas until August 31, which was previously in place until the end of July.
The state will also observe the full lockdown on Saturdays and Sundays. However, the same will not be observed this weekend because of the Mulsim Eid al-Adha festival.
Speaking to the media, Chief State Minister Mamata Banerjee said: “We are extending the lockdown of containment areas until August 31, which was previously in place until July 31”.
“Government services will continue as usual. Private organizations can also run their offices, but while maintaining COVID standards like wearing masks, gloves, hand sanitizing and more. We will try to break the COVID chain. twice a week by enforcing a full lockdown of the containment areas until Aug. 31. However, on Aug. 15, there will be no full lockdown. Only small ceremonies will be allowed, the chief minister said.
“No full lockdown this Saturday and Sunday because of Eid al-Adha. Ask everyone to celebrate the day by maintaining COVID standards. However, no gatherings or gatherings will be allowed outside as we have limitations due to lockdown. Starting next week, we will be introducing full lockouts every weekend, ”she added.
The government of West Bengal has formed eight teams led by IAS agents to monitor the increase in COVID cases in several districts of the state.
