In the middle of a spike in COVID-19 cases, Mamata Banerjee announced an extension of the state lock (Representation)

Kolkata:

BJP leaders in West Bengal asked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for a “white paper” on Thursday with the reasons given for extending the state foreclosure until July 31 and said his government was organizing a “drama” in front of people, but was not serious about implementing the standards to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Head of State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Lok Sabha MP Dilip Ghosh attributed the recent spike in coronavirus cases in West Bengal to the government of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and said the departure from power was trying to create the illusion that everything was fine, but the real picture was far from it.

“From the very beginning, the foreclosure was not properly implemented in Bengal. If it had been strictly enforced, the situation would have been much better today. The state government just wanted to create an imaginary world and tell people that everything was fine, but the real picture was something different, “Ghosh told reporters.

BJP National Secretary Rahul Sinha said the chief minister should publish a “white book” explaining the reasons for the prolongation of the isolation until July 31.

“The government should stop this tragedy from extending the closure every month, when in reality it is not serious to implement the standards,” he said.

Amid the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases in West Bengal, Ms. Banerjee announced on Wednesday that the lockout would be extended for another month, with existing relaxations in place. The current lockout period was scheduled to end on June 30.

COVID-19 deaths in West Bengal rose to 606 on Thursday as another 15 died from the disease, while 475 new cases pushed the state to 15,648, health officials said.
