Vikas Dubey’s assistant, Prabhat, was arrested on Tuesday.
Two aides to the notorious gangster Vikas Dubey, the main accused in the cold-blooded ambush and murder of eight police officers last week in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, were shot dead early Thursday morning during separate meetings in the UP as ‘They were trying to escape, said the police.
Prabhat, one of the two assistants, was arrested on Tuesday in Faridabad, Haryana, about an hour from Delhi, after Dubey was spotted in a city hotel. He was brought back to Kanpur with another man arrested with him while he was trying to escape, police said.
“The cops who were with Prabhat were trying to change the tire of the police van when Prabhat snatched a gun from them and tried to escape. He shot the cops and the police retaliated. He was injured in the leg and taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries, “said senior police official Prashant Kumar.
Another assistant killed this morning – Bauva Dubey alias Praveen – had a bonus of 50,000 rupees on him. The meeting took place in Etawah, about 220 km from the state capital, Lucknow.
“At around 3 am a Swift Dzire was looted by four armed men from a Scorpion. They were arrested about an hour later by cops while trying to escape. The police chased them and a Unidentified man was repeatedly wounded by crossfire. He was pronounced dead in hospital, “said senior police official Akash Tomar. The man was then identified as Praveen, Dubey’s aide.
A pistol, a double barrel pistol and several cartridges were recovered during the encounter. Three other men who were with Ranbir managed to escape.
Last week, eight police officers were ambushed and killed when 50 police officers from three stations went to the village of Bikru in the Chaubeypur region of Kanpur to arrest gangster Vikas Dubey, who is wanted in an attempted murder case.
Dubey – charged in 60 criminal cases, including murder, kidnapping, extortion and riot – has been missing since Friday’s massacre. A massive hunt was launched to stop him and the gangster premium was doubled from 2.5 lakh to 5 lakh rupees on Wednesday.
One of his close associates – Amar Dubey – was chased and shot down in the Hamirpur district on Wednesday. Amar Dubey was number one on the list of 15 Vikas Dubey assistants chased by the police since the murder of cops in Kanpur during a failed raid.
Another assistant – Shyamu Bajpai – was arrested on Wednesday in Kanpur.
