The United States will work with countries like India, Japan and South Korea to tackle the threat of Chinese surveillance, said a top US senator, who passed legislation in Congress to make New Delhi a Washington’s strategic defense partner on a permanent basis, said.
Democratic Senator Mark Warner, chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Intelligence, said in an interaction with members of the US Security Council from India that China has become a major problem for US companies doing business. in this country and that intellectual theft was a big concern.
Mr Warner, who is also co-chair of the Senate India Caucus, said he had sponsored an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to make India a strategic defense partner on a base permed.
Expressing serious concerns about Chinese surveillance on all aspects of organizations doing business with Beijing, Warner said the United States would work with countries like India, Japan and South Korea to combat the Chinese threat.
Prominent Indian-American Ramesh Kapur of the United States Security Council for India said that given the current scenario it would make more sense to bring all manufacturing back to America.
He said that in areas where there were cost issues due to labor and other issues, it would make sense to move manufacturing to India for all US companies that are currently in China.
