Washington:
The US Department of Commerce announced Monday that it has blacklisted 11 Chinese companies for their involvement in human rights abuses against the Uighur minority, thereby cutting companies’ access to American products.
Washington, along with other nations and Western rights groups, has accused Beijing of interning at least one million Uighur Muslims in western Xinjiang.
In a statement, the Commerce Department said the 11 sanctioned companies were “involved in human rights abuses and abuses in the implementation of the People’s Republic of China’s campaign of repression, the arbitrary detention of mass, forced labor, involuntary collection of biometric data and genetic analysis. “
The trade sanctioned nine companies – Changji Esquel Textile, Hefei Bitland Information Technology, Hefei Meiling, Hetian Haolin Hair Accessories, Hetian Taida Apparel, KTK Group, Nanjing Synergy Textiles, Nanchang O-Film Tech and Tanyuan Technology – for their involvement in the work strength.
Xinjiang Silk Road and Beijing Liuhe were both punished for “carrying out genetic analyzes used to promote repression” of Uighurs, said the Ministry of Commerce.
Earlier this month, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called China’s treatment of Uyghurs “the stain of the century.”
But Beijing denies a reprehensible act, claiming that Uyghurs attend vocational training centers.
