Some people would say men are insulted by this and some people would say it is fine, Trump said.

Washington:

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that some men might feel “insulted” by Democratic rival Joe Biden’s pledge to pick a woman as their vice-presidential candidate.

“He’s locked himself in a certain group of people,” Trump told Fox Sports Radio in a morning phone interview.

“Some people would say men are insulted by this and some people would say it is fine,” Trump said.

Claiming to want a government as diverse as the country itself, Biden pledged at the start of his campaign in March to name a woman on the ticket. He is expected to announce his choice this week.

Only two other women were nominated as running mate- rial candidates – Sarah Palin by the Republican Party in 2008 and Geraldine Ferraro by the Democrats in 1984 – and neither entered the White House. No woman has won the presidency either.

In the radio interview, Trump praised his own vice president, Mike Pence, but said bluntly: “People don’t vote for vice president, they really don’t vote.”

“You can choose a George Washington to be vice president. Take Abraham Lincoln, coming back from the dead. They just don’t seem to vote for vice president.”
