Washington:

US President Donald Trump should be able to resume “public commitments” from Saturday, the White House doctor said on Thursday, saying the US leader has responded “extremely well” to the Covid-19 treatment.

“Saturday will be the tenth day since Thursday’s diagnostic, and based on the trajectory of the team’s advanced diagnostics, I fully anticipate the president’s safe return to public engagements at that time,” he said. Trump doctor Sean Conley said in a statement.

Trump spent three days in the hospital before returning to the White House on Monday evening. The White House has become a Covid-19 hotspot, with dozens of people close to Trump testing positive.

“Overall, he responded extremely well to treatment, with no evidence on examining adverse therapeutic effects,” Conley said.

Since his diagnosis, Trump has received experimental treatment with antibodies, remdesivir, an antiviral drug, and the steroid dexamethasone.

With just 26 days of the Nov. 3 election, the president is eager to get back on the campaign trail to rally his base, polls showing him behind Democratic challenger Joe Biden.
