New Delhi:
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday attacked the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the state of law and order, accusing Yogi Adityanath of dispensing from “juggling” figures about crime rather than taking action.
The Secretary General of Congress in charge of UP East shared statistics of certain crimes in Uttar Pradesh in the form of graphics as well as a tweet attacking the state government.
“The UP accounts for 56% of the total illegal weapon cases nationwide. Cybercrime cases increased by 138% in the UP between 2016 and 2018,” said Priyanka Gandhi in a tweet in Hindi .
“Instead of learning about it and acting on it, the UP government is juggling these numbers. How is crime going to decrease?” she says.
Priyanka Gandhi attacked the Uttar Pradesh government for the rule of law and order after eight police officers were killed in a meeting with criminals in Kanpur last week.
The eight men were ambushed in the Chaubeypur police station area as they went to arrest the famous local criminal Vikas Dubey and fell under the rain of bullets fired from the roofs shortly after midnight Friday.
In another tweet, Priyanka Gandhi called for an impartial investigation into the suspected suicide of a provincial civil service officer (PCS) in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh.
Priyanka Gandhi said reports said the officer had raised serious questions about the functioning of the administration and that all the facts needed to be revealed.
A 27-year-old woman, a panchayat executive, is said to have died by suicide in her rented accommodation in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, her father saying that she had been “murdered”.
Mani Manjari Rai in her suicide note, which was found at the scene, said that she had been “cheated and had to do a bad job,” said Additional Police Superintendent Sanjay Yadav.
Ms. Rai was the executive officer of the Maniya Nagar Panchayat.
Priyanka Gandhi also tagged a media report on Facebook on the alleged sexual exploitation of underage girls in the Chitrakoot mines of Uttar Pradesh.
She urged the government and the relevant committee to take immediate action on the report.
